The theme for International Yoga Day in 2023 is ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which represents our shared desire for “One Earth, One Family, One Future. The main aim is to raise awareness about the numerous physical and mental health benefits of yoga and provide an opportunity for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to experience its transformative effects firsthand.
International Yoga Day or International Day of Yoga is celebrated every year on June 21 to spread awareness about the importance and effects of yoga on the health of people. The word yoga has been derived from the Sanskrit words 'Yuj' and 'Yujir' which means 'Together' or ' To Unite'. It can be the togetherness of mind and soul of a human being.
Yoga is an ancient and complex practice which involves movement, meditation and breathing techniques. Began as a spiritual practice, it has now become a way of promoting physical and mental well-being and has its roots in Indian history. It is a state of harmony at every level of existence and is practised in various forms around the globe.
What is the theme of Yoga Day 2023?
“Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” is the theme for this year’s International Yoga Day 2023, which beautifully captures our shared aspiration for “One Earth, One Family, and One Future.”
From the United Nations headquarters in New York, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the global celebration of yoga this year. Moreover, Jagdeep Dhankhar, the vice president of India, will preside over the nation’s IDY 2023 celebrations from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal made this announcement at the curtain-raiser press conference on Saturday in New Delhi. Ocean Ring Of Yoga Nine ports around the world will host Indian naval ships that will take part in the Common Yoga Protocol demonstration. History and Significance of Yoga Day
Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Today it is practised in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity. The United Nations General Assembly had declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 at the initiative of India with the support of 177 countries.

The word "Yoga" is derived from the Sanskrit root 'yuj' meaning "to join", "to yoke" or "to unite". According to Yogic scriptures, the practice of Yoga leads to the union of an individual consciousness with the universal consciousness.
